The Hope and the Damn of the Client.

I was hoping this was a better week. Looks like its not what I really expected, like less work and less stress.

I remained hopeful on something. You can try hard guessing what or who am I talking about. I hope she does not find me "empty" as I don't really talk interesting things in front of her. I'm not really good expressing my voice. Maybe because I don't want to voice too much as I did hurt people using my mouth in the past. But I am trying to be a better person. I can't remember interesting things that I think she would think is interesting. I don't want to be like Sidik and Jason, talking about sex, girls, ogle at them and comment on women's figures. I know every man's instinct should be like that (er hem... I am a man).

But I think there's better things to do then just looking women like pieces of meat for sale. I felt there's a simple need to respect them. Yes, maybe I do look at beautiful women occasionally. It's truely man's instinct but I don't comment too much or perhaps not at all. Firstly, who am I to judge perfect external beauty when I don't have it. Secondly, I think the true beauty is the one of the heart. Although most of the time a person would judge another person's appearance first (including me), but after sometime interacting with that person, you'll see the good side of him or her.

Anyway, I was doing the NASA China application and finished it. I thought NASA was my nemesis but there's an even worse arch-nemesis I almost forgot... I-Learn Thai, the Dumex's Training Software.

The sad thing was dealing with the Thai vocabulary. The restriction was that we do not understand it and could not anyhow break in-between the characters as to break the phrases or sentences. It'll spoil the spelling and other craps. These cause restrictions to the design, mainly the text font type, size and others.

Peipei was shoot by the idiotic client yesterday. Then, the client called me up to whine about the so-called mistakes he discovered. But I didn't budge as the application has no clear records of the needs to standardise text size or type, restricted by Thai vocabulary. Its like trying to breaking a stick into three and try make it an equilateral triangle without rulers or a pair of compassses. I thought I finished all the stuff two days before the dceadline that I was asked to finish. But after the client's bitching, I think I could only finish it tomorrow.

Well, I'll be hopeful tomorrow. I'll be getting $450 for my salary and an extra $50 over-time pay. With the $300 bursary I've received on the last Saturday, I'll declare myself a "rich" man and ready to buy my Nokia 6610 handphone as soon as possible.

Nice Week.

I can only say this week was pretty fine. Apart from the work I'm doing, anything else was perfect.

I had a very good Friday, yesterday. Yesterday was hot, so was Kernis. She wore very nice sling clothe (I forgot what was it called, its a tube with two wires) so that you could see her nice tattoo on her back and wore extreme low-cut jeans so that you could see her butt drain with a tattoo on the right side. But I think I can get use to it :p

During lunch time I went along with the Digi Kakis, mainly Kernis, Diana, David, Nur, Shahid, Sidik, Wanzhen and I. We went to visit our company's booth located at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre, under the exhibition "Ideas 2003", which lasted from 23th September 2003 to 26th September 2003. The exhibition was mainly on ideas, on advertising industry or related companies like mine (my company is categorised under Business Communications). Surprisingly, when we reach the exhibition hall, there was hardly any visitors walking by, only a few 2 or 3 people walking between 3 or 4 booths in an area. I estimated there was around maximum of 40 booths on that exhibition.

It was very pathetic. I heard my company spent about $70,000 on decorating our booth (which was nice) and others. I think they needed better marketing directives of target audiences and best budget for it.

Visitors have to register a pass at the 1st level of the convention centre. We were only told about it when we were at the exhibition entrance on 4th level. Imagine other visitors putting off the idea of visiting "Ideas 2003" when they were at the 4th level already and needed to go back 1st level to register and come up again.

Luckily, we registered our passes as "Visitors" near entrance in which there was suddenly a regisration point (I guessed it was a last minute set up). Although we were staff of our company, we became "Visitor". There was a buffet banquet at the exhibition though. There was lots of buffet food. I had quite a fill. After that, we decided to leave as the exhibition was quite "dead" and we all headed back to office.

But almost all returned to office.

Because the bosses were not around, Kernis, Sidik, Wanzhen and I went to jia zhua (eat snake) as Kernis wanted to shop for slippers around the Bugis area. We had quite some fun.

After that, it was back to office. There managed to finish my task on hand and got some freedom. I got no workstation to use anyway as I gave it up to Wanzhen as she needed a much more faster PC to work on the Photoshop rather than the slow Macintosh G3 machine.

Everyone was busy before the off work time. Then Shahid played the Elvis Presley's music in the office, I started dancing a few steps and everyone in the office became quite shocked and started laughing happily. That made me quite pai seh (shy and blushing). I guess they didn't expect I'm quite a dancer and suddenly dance for no good reason except the music. I was preparing to club after work that night.

After work, I slipped off before being called to dismantle all the stuff at the booth at Suntec.

I was meeting Chee Wee for dinner around the City Hall MRT station area first before we went to club. I did went into Bugis MRT station and prepared to take MRT train to head for City Hall MRT station to meet Chee Wee, but he'll only arrive in the city area in 45 minutes. So I thought and decided to leaves the station and walked to there instead. When I came out of the Bugis MRT station , I met Wanzhen (she left the office 25 minutes before I did) and I waved at her, she smiled and we walked pass each other. All just in a split second.

I didn't managed to club that night, because of low attendance. With only three guys gathered (including me), we called it off. But I met Chee Wee for dinner and had a good heart-to-heart chat at the Burger King restaurant at Raffles City. We chatted a lot as we have not met for quite some time.

After the dinner Chee Wee and I visited the Esplanades Theatres to get some fresh air and nice night scenery (but we weren't dating and ain't gays). There we chat and talk about our hearts. From there, I opened my heart, talked about it and realised I like someone... now (but not him!). The rest are all secrets...

After that, Chee Wee and I balek kampong (go home). Coincidentally, I met Chin Leong and Meifang dating home near the theatres at the Esplanades Walk. Then, was the normal, lonely journey home...

There Comes the NASA Chineses...

Hmmm... Don't I just get sick of the NASA applications. First the NASA Thais, then the NASA Indians and now the NASA Chineses. The ever Notorious Ass-Sucking Army (NASA) now reinforced themselves with the NASA Chineses. I've entered the third phase of the Dumex War.

But they never had the chance. The NASA Chineses using their age-old and ancient tactic: "Charge!". It always fails. They wanted to win by quantity, but never made it. I managed to clear two batches of them. But I know they'll come back. After all, what they sent was not very challenging, just under-trained idiots. The Dumex Clients definitely will regroup it and send them running against me again, like they always do.

NASA Indians was defeated this morning. They were crap but I cleared them. Now I only expect a few remnants to try and sabotage my position. They'll never make it, they'll die under my hands unless my hands are gone...

Joining Singapore Polytechnic is Lots of Fun...

I realised my poly life in Singapore Polytechnic is not great at all. After all these three years (I'm a 3rd Year student), by looking at the future prospects of holding my diploma, it doesn't look good.

Yes, Singapore Polytechnic (SP) have lots of fun. But the course I joined, Diploma in Multimedia Technology, it kind of sucks. That's why there's always a phrase my friends and I always call, "SP is lie! SP sucks! SP sucks!". Especially for my course, I realised the course lacked alot of resources. Software or hardware, it lacked a lot. The course even lacked time I say. This conclusion was after what I communicated with students of similar courses from other polytechnics and I also seen their works.

Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) courses have a lot less holidays, because they spent alot of time doing their work. And the results and products they produced were really good as I've seen. SP's DMMT students spend time to scratch the surfaces of the things in their courses. The course hours are too short, too rush and so our resulting assignment products are full of scratches. Not something to be really proud of, really.

Most of the resources are old and obsolete from the old course of Diploma in Software Engineering, revamped to Diploma in Multimedia Technology (DMMT). These cause limitations to develop more advance skills and create better work. Of course in design aspects wise, I agree that SP's DMMT course sucks absolutely throughout Singapore's polytechnics.

Singapore Polytechnic has a long history and it only maintain that for its reputation. SP only develops courses it is famous for and ignored others, like my course of DMMT. Sad case, because something has to be done. SP rather spend so much money on building a not so awesome in architectural design convention centre. Rather than putting money to improve the quality of the courses. I suggest they take off the emblems of whatever ISO certified craps, Singapore Quality Class craps and others relating to terms of quality. SP's vision is lost in space.

Sick...

I'm having a flu today, caught it since the yesterday's last cold night, doing the FYP Proposal and it is not completed. Worse still, I kena rain even I'm under the shelter after a morning tea-break. The wind is really strong. The wind blew the rain hard on some of my fellow colleagues and I. I thought it was a typhoon... Now I have quite a serious flu. Sniff and sneeze at times. Most of the colleagues caught the flu too. Some were caught in the rain, but I definitely hoped it was not me who spread the flu... I think I had the most serious flu and I may be the super-infector.

Anyway, I also sick of doing the bloody storyboards and the idiotic node map for the whole damn application of the NASA India. I have been doing that since yesterday. I have to capture all the keyframe images from the individual Director files of different stories or categories and put them into the storyboards and the herculean node map or roadmap they called it. I asked reinforcement from Sidik to help me capture the keyframe images and do some of the storyboards.

Worse still, the revolutionary clients still have changes for the Director files. This means I have change the changes in the Director files and change the keyframe images in the storyboards as well as the darn node map. I still need help from someone tomorrow...

"They are charging at us! Again! Arghhh!!!"

Like a soldier entrenched, hold the trench position for very long time. I am Sergeant Jeffery. Together with Corporal Sidik and others, who are entrenched in theThe enemy has tried to advance and capture our trench position again. They're charging at us. Again...

The evil and sickening rogue nation, the Dumex Clients tired to dominate the milk powder world. To start their domination, they landed their eyes on us. A small, nation known as Digimagic. They wanted to prove their dominance through multimedia.

Commander Peipei, received intelligence that fresh troops of NASA (Notorious Ass-Sucking Army) had arrived yesterday as early as 0900HRS, yesterday. They were reinforcement divisions from the India, known as NASA India. I knew them. I've been fighting the NASA throughout the whole time. NASA Thai was finally wiped out. NASA China had also joined the battle against us. I just killed some saboteurs who attempt to blow up my trench yesterday, but I killed them all. After that, the NASA Indians started charging, I start calling artilleries to bombard them, air-force to blow them up and get my guys and I to machine-gunned them. But... "They just keep coming... BACK! Arghhh!!! Bang! Bang! Bang!"

At Ease.

I'm at ease at the office, most of the time. Finally I learn some new things today after doing all the same work and things for about 2 or 3 weeks.

The only task I have to do today was doing some node maps or the clients using Macromedia FreeHand 10. Macromedia FreeHand is similar to that of the Adobe Illustrator, a vector graphic editing programme. The only thing is that I was dealing with bitmap graphics within the FreeHand as keyframes for node display. But I think it is similar to the productivity software tools like Microsoft Word's drawing tools. It was just a bit strange to do node maps on design tools like Macromedia FreeHand rather than productivity software tools like Microsoft Office software. The only advantage of using FreeHand was that it can create other file formats like Adobe Acrobat files or PDFs, which makes the document file size smaller.

All the Same Shitty Things.

Never blog for a few days already. This was simply because nothing really interesting had been happening so far. If I blogged, I would be blogging work and work and the same work I've did for umpteen times. All the same shitty things everyday I refer.

Why all the shit all of the sudden? I had a bad shitting day. A day of stomach upset yesterday. Don't really remember what I ate wrong the day before, on Tuesday night. The next morning on Wednesday, the first thing I did when I went to office was shit. The business was normal. But after I drank some teh tarik in the early morning, I had a bad release on the late morning, near noon. The teh tarik seems to be simply "flushed" through my guts and clear everything in it. Worst, I was pooing teh tarik. The colour of teh tarik and shit looked the same. I did that for 10-15 minutes.

After that, I felt my guts were weak and periodically in pain, which made me felt like shitting but I know I'm empty all inside...

But today, I felt better than yesterday. Although I still felt my system haven't totally recover to its normal status.

Stress Level Down.

Today is not all work. Finally I had few hours of nice breather after finishing some tasks, I felt I've been squeezed for the last two or three weeks during the working hours non-stop. Those days, I felt like Arnold Schwarzenegger as the terminator in Terminator III: Rise of the Machines, "I am a machine!"

Superb Weekend.

Superb weekend, I have to say. The work, the physical training, the mental and emotional meditations are all nicely done this weekend.

Friday.

After finishing the worst case I ever had on Thursday. Friday was pretty much peaceful and steady. After all, some colleagues were not here on Friday as they were off for a roadshow in India. And yes, the bosses are not around. Some colleagues even gave themselves unofficial leaves for Thursday and Friday. Even though there's a webcam in our office to allow the bosses to spy on how are we doing. We just did fine by turning the angle of the webcam to shoot a less prominent area where not most of the staff are...

Although there's still work given by Peipei on Friday. Task after task, I managed to clear them all. Documentation of un-translated English contents prepared for translation in Thai. Stupid chnages of this and that requested by imbecile client. Checking tabulised data in HTML documents using Microsofty ForntPage. I've done them all.

Saturday.

I had enough of my beauty sleep up to 1pm. Peipei was suppose to phone me for work if she needs my help but didn't. I didn't resist weedend overtimes as they are more worth doing. But sadly, iot didn't come.

Anyway, I went out with my high school, or should I say secondary school buddy, Elvin. We went lunch together before we headed for the COMEX 2003 exhinbition at the Suntec City Convention Centre. The ultimate aim was my buddy to get his free gifts *thuh...* from his PC vendor in which he bought PC hardware and software stuff from to make his new PC a few months ago. After that, we went to The Esplanades - Theatres by the Bay's rooftop terrace for some fresh air and scenic view of the sunset (but I must declared we're not gays). By the way, I met Chee Wee's friend, Bryan, with his another male friend (that doesn't make them gays either). After that, we went for dinner and talked men's talk at Marina Square's foodcourt. Then we went back to Suntec City shopping area to check on some digital stuff again.

Sunday.

I did some work out today. Sweat it out with some music on. Train my arms and chest muscles using two dumbbells of each weighing 3kg. Sit up of 50 times a go. Push-ups of about 30 times, 10 by 10 by 10, in between other workouts of arms, abs and etc. Run or jog on the spot fot 10 to 15 muinutes. The parts of my body that I really wanted to train was my low abs, which ballooned a little. I'm 49kg now, but I'm on an acceptable weight with a good Body Mass Index (BMI) of about 21. The hardest part of today's workout was the push-ups. Perhaps I'm old or not. I had a tough time with it. I don't think its my muscle power. I think it is my joints which are too flexible, in which, causing stress to the joints when I doing push-ups.

Mission Accomplished!

Mission Accomplished! I finally completed the changes of about five modules in the I-Learn Thai Director application in full 100% which spanned over a week's time.

Yet this was not the end of this monster. There are still textual content not translated to Thai. Meaning, it'll need to get its translation done, then sent here to be changed or edited yet again. Ironically, I'll have to search and locate these un-translated content and document it in a Word document. I would rather "search-and-destroy" all these stuff if I had that kind of ability. It is because after all the translation are done, I may be the one battling it again.

The worst part? There's stilll five full modules of English content still not translated. These include the rollover buttons, textual content within the HTML documents embedded in the Director application files and bitmap graphics in those HTML documents as well as in the Director application files too. Colossal work, but luckily I'm not a permanent staff here, or else I'll be doing it till it finishes after about an estimated 3-4 months of work.

Good Mood.

I had a good mood today for work. I managed to finish yesterday's task of putting the voice-over audio clips into the a Director application in the morning. I continued the I-Learn Thai with a smooth pace. Editing and changing the graphics of the rollover buttons. There's only three or four of them but one set changed took at least an hour to finish it. I cleared all of them. I was determined to do my job. Tomorrow I must finish at least 75% of the task tomorrow.

For now, I going to have tea with Sidik and Wan Zhen. Then I'll go to LAN gaming with Wong again.

Oppressed Stakhanovite Worker.

Quite a busy day, my mind was on the work most of the time. I felt that today's clock ticked a bit slow, yet the calendar's going too fast. Ironically.

This morning, I was doing a bit of I-Learn Thai , in which the deadline was set by Friday. That means I have about three days to do that Director appliaction's changes. I also did some Quality Control checking on the keyframes Photoshop (PSD) files, accompanied by some minor changes with them.

In the afternoon, I was again doing the I-Learn Thai application. Then I paused that task again. To work some gyam chai tasks, a bit here and there. When I went back to work on my I-Learn Thai application again, the server screwed up or something. I had a good half hour to play some online games and rest for awhile. But not for long, Peipei asked me to do some sound editing, cutting Thai voice-over clip into appropriate lengths and put them into the a Director application. I did that for the whole evening.

I suddenly felt like an oppressed slave for Peipei. Working for her almost non-stop throughout these few weeks. I never felt she was my supervisor but just a colleague. She lacked something to be one. I do not know what. She taught methods to do my work which made me go blur at times. Her methods were to be understood one big detour before I understood that: Her methods were similar of mine, just that its of the same distance but yet a different route. Sometimes I felt she's wasting my time when she did that because I already knew what I was doing.

Anyway, I don't dislike her. I only dislike praising me like a kid when I tell her something good or bad, in Mandarin or English. "You're so good." "Wah...! Ni hen li hai (Wow...! You are incredible)." Her style put me off and was absolutely similar when I had one Art teacher in secondary school who do that too.

Old Nemesis

That old Director application is back. My old nemesis. The first Thai-languaged Director application I ever did. The worst headache I ever had, is back. New changes, old problems.

That's what I did for most of the time in this morning. The application product is called I-Learn Thai . Like its name, it is a training CD-ROM for the corporate's own staff. The changes were mainly the missing translations they never gave, luckily. Or I had alot more to do at one go, which will definitely kill me. I had to replace English to Thai.

Sounds easy? All the textual content are already rasterise into bitmap images mind you. It mean changes in the working template file of the Adobe Photoshop and then in the bitmap editor in the internal cast of the Director application. Every bit and pixel must be change with pinpoint accuracy, or I'll do it again till I do. Or be screwed by the Small Boss, Jeffrey. Nicknamed by other colleagues "Fish" simply because he smells like one. Bernard was screwed earlier for "in-subordination" for his always easy-going attitude. Bernard had been given a warning letter and needs to write a "Letter of Apology" for everyone in the office to see. Sounds like poly-life! Warning letter some more...

After a pretty major lunch meet, I was doing sound editing, cutting Thai voice-over clip into appropriate lengths for the Thai-languaged application I did last week. I did half of it, Sidik did the other half. I finished my part earlier. Phase by phase, working like a computer system, with no care whether it had any human errors seen by humans. They'll have to find the "bugs" when the problem arise...

My current priority was to do the changes for the Adobe After-Effects production video in Photoshop files as the keyframes design are all in there.

Meeting the Familiar.

I had a packed schedule on Saturday. Had many good talks and chat with my friends after not meeting for quite a while.

Saturday Morning: - Swimming

I had a swim with Daniel Chua at the Jurong East Swimming Complex with facilities of a water themepark. Old classmate from the secondary school years. He's a very skinny guy. He's quite white in his skin tone too. His purpose of swimming with me was to tan himself. My purpose was to relax, enjoy the swim and exercise my bod a bit. I didn't try to ogle girls there. Firstly, because I'm quite blind without my glasses. That's why I always need to have company when I swim. Secondly, there weren't any good looking girls to look at during the morning. We swam till noon. I'm tanned, but Daniel is still pretty light.

We head for my neighbourhood's hawker centre for lunch. We had a great chat. Then I returned home to switch my bags and head for school campus.

Saturday Afternoon: - FYP Discussions Meeting

Arrrived in school and met my poly friends and classmates. The early birds were Shian and Syazali. Most of my poly friends had a bad habit of being late. So, we went to our campus' foodcourt 5 for Shian to get his KFC lunch and meet Joseph. I got my large whipped potato for snack. Then, we went for a route of twist and turns, back to our School of ICT's main building. The shrtest and original route's walkways were under renovations. All the people had arrived. Syazali, Shian, Jesslyn, Dawn, Banu, Joseph, Andhika, Kent and Gangxin. The discussions was on how form our groups.

The discussion was going very well unlike of the past, when we always discuss in fury, disorganise and frustrating ways. Even more surprisingly, Kent managed to think, process and organise his ideas properly before he speak out his views so that everyone can understand. The outcome decision Syazali, Shian, Jesslyn, Dawn, Banu, Kent and I will form our FYP group, doing the video production project. We hope that we may use others areas of specialisation like visual effects (2D animation included), graphics design and 3D animation further enhance our video production if needed. To allow freedom of ideas for our story, we made sure we don't restrict ourselves by basing our production firmly on visual effects, graphics design and 3D animation skills.

Saturday Evening: - To Become a Volunteer for Medical Study (Withdraw Blood)

I arrived at the lab in the School of Chemical and Life Sciences (CLS)., where my best friend Elvin awaits me. I didn't know why I agree to let his before his study subject, but I did anyway. He's doing the study with his two friends Jia Bao and Caroline. The study, which was their FYP, are on studying whether what is the homocysteine (a chemical which is already in human blood stream, that causes heart disease) level Singaporean teenagers and how folate (folic acid, a chemical compound which is in many green leafy vegetables we eat, in which it reduces the homocysteine level in humans) affects us, the study subjects. I need to eat a Folate pill everyday. It is of no harm anyway, I take it like a supplement. Elvin says it reduces homocysteine level in humans and helps to increase red blood cells (like steroids but Folate is not an illegal drug. ) to make a human more awake and fresh.

The blood taking process was done in a very professional way, with all the proper procedures done. I was considered lucky. I only need to be "poked" once with the needle syringe even though Elvin says the vein at the elbow area is thin. He did however, overshot the my vein and went through that vein. *Ouch*

For other "guinea pigs" however, they were not so lucky. Elvin "poked" six "guinea pigs" including me. He said the first one before me failed because he couldn't find his vein. Second was me. Third was his female cousin who unfortunately been poked twice, left and right arm because Elvin couldn't find her vein. The third one was a guy and was also "poked" twice because the tube of vacuum which was used to withdraw his blood fails, it only managed to withdraw half of the required amount of blood for the first shot. The last two persons, a guy and a gal fortunately had a large vein and was done successfully.

The friends of Caroline were not so lucky as she did it very unprofessionally. She "poked" one of her firends five times! She "poked" Elvin too as Elvin requested he himself wants to be a study subject as well. She angled her needle when inserting the needle. *Ouch* She didn't cover Elvin's injection wound when she withdrawed the needle. Elvin bled two drop of bloods. *Ouch* Then, it was Jia Bao's turn for the second try at Elvin's other arm. She overshot his vein. *Ouch* Serves him right for overshooting mine! Ha ha ha!

After that, Elvin and I went for LAN gaming at Ginza Plaza playing Command & Conquer: General till about 10pm.
