To Change or Not to Change.

Past. Present. Future. Changes. It happened everytime. I love it. I want it. I even try and make them.

But sometimes, I'm just getting into too many of them. So many promised things never happened. Some were simply half-done or pending.

Like, I did say I want to keep my blogs short and sweet?

Forget it. I'm a long-winded person when it comes to typing. I like to type long stories, just like making some history. I only type short unless I'm short on time and is lazy or tired.

Sorry, but that are what make ME.

As for new wishes to change what, I am really hoping that my job conditions will improve. Something new to learn, to control and to think as I work.

I simply do not wish to be some rusty brainless slacker when I come into the society and work when I'm outta NS!

Please God, cut me all the birdshit tasks.

(o.0)

Oh... One more thing. My life has changed dramatically.

So it is also time to change my whole design of my blog site.

But that change will comply qill come in waves of other changes...

Just wait and see bah!

Hell or Heaven of Slacking?!

Today... Today is my first day of official work in my new unit of SSC (SAF Army Shooting Contingent). Though there weren't any weapons training or such, my first insights to how the SSC works was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING!

It is either a hell or heaven of slacking, depending on the individual's perspective!
(From my perspective, its hell of slacking!)

From the first thing I stepped into the main office, I see a list on the main whiteboard. Its a list of about 10 people reporting sick, on medical status. Initially I took no notice to it. But, later I knew.

It was already 7.30am. But people were still late when we were doing our role calls. I thought it was natural to be late as it was raining heavily in the morning. But later I realised that wasn't much of the case...

There and there, people started to be on their working places. I was temporary attached to the unit's platoon 2 (along 2 other guys who were attached as the same fate as me), which was seriously low on manpower.

So the unit's 2IC (second-in-charge), 2LT Joel and the platoon 2 PC (platoon commander), 2LT Kelvin, told us straight that SSC is a very slack unit.

There is no regimentation. So men slack like nobody's business. Even under the slack environment, men still report sick. This high rate of reporting sick causes screw ups and hiccups in the unit...

Those eventually causing low manpower shortages on working tasks.

So sometimes, even officers and specialists had to do the men's job.. quite a lot!

So officers and specialists slack along... as they can't do anything do their daily problems of their jobs...

(But honestly, from my point of view, it is becos' the unit working culture is so slack, there is totally no job satisfaction, no job commitment, no job dedication at all... So people rather think they rather stay at home... man... so report sick lah!).

There it is. All the chao keng, NATO (No Action, Talk Only) and wayang were all seen here in the unit. Everybody just turn a blind eye to everyone's mistakes and evils everyday...

After all the shit I went through SISPEC, all my skills are totally no going to apply at all... Not even a chance to whack your men down...

This is so demoralising to some extend. Disappointment is the key word on my new job...

Too much slacking is definitely a dislike for me...

Because I'm a progressive person.

That demoralising feeling also apply to most of the young officers I knew in SSC, when they first came to SSC after commisioning proudly from OCS...

Fresh tasks... With no training for me today, what did I do today?

From the start time of work at 7.30am to 10.30am, we were all doing nothing because of the heavy rains... After that we move out to the Mandai ranges.

Along with the other two freshie 3SG latters, I was assigned to go along with 3SG Winston, who graduated from the SISPEC ASLC batch of Golf company.

He was like us when he first came here. Don't know what the fuck is SSC doing...

But he had got into the slack ways of SSC since then.

Anyway, today we did very ikan bilis and peanuts stuff (We were supposed to be safety officers at the range practices and scoring matches, but we didn't have ear-plugs).

So, we were assigned to the range butt (where the targets is, the end of the range) with 3SG Winston. We were the butt party, along with a few men.

What we do?

We staple the figure target papers onto the target boards.

After every shoot, we mend the holes on the target figure papers by pasting some stickers.

After that, when the shooting practices were over. The 3SG freshies started counting the shots scored on the figure target papers for the scoring matches.

And that's it, end of work today at 4.30pm. We managed to pack up everything by 5pm.

After that, we simply waited for the time to hit 5.30pm and sign off our nominal rolls. And off, we book-out and went home...

Wow... I can't wait to be a safety officer tomorrow... Let's hope it is something for a change from today...

(-.-)||| Duh! So much for being enthusiastic as a new specialist on a new job!

Last weekdays... Ah ha! Finally passed out as a 3rd Sergeant (3SG) last week!

 Posted by Hello

I received my posting to my new unit at BMTC. Thought I would be a BMT instructor. And I thought I would be an aspired instructor to teach new recruits what is life in SAF and in return, learning things along the way and from the recruits themselves...

But that was not mean to be...

Thought I would have some peace and quiet after being on leave before the commencement of my so-thought-to-be Instructor Training Course (ITC) on next Monday.

But I suddenly received a call on Wednesday morning asking me to report 8am to the School of Infantry Weapons (SIW) in Pasir Laba Camp. And that was all the call was about. Before I could ask anything else to fill up my utter deepness of doubts, the phone was hung up after I acknowledge the so-called order of instructions

I was initially confused. I thought I was posted to BMTC?

Thinking that it could be a mistake. I tried calling the number back. But it just could not go back to the same line of the original source. Or else it just went through the guardroom of 9 Division (9 DIV).

All that process I went through I went through made me angry, as I was getting frustrated into clearing my doubts.

With no further idea where to call back to confirm the order of instructions, I called back to SISPEC’s administration to confirm my posting. And yes, they confirmed that it was BMTC.

So all and all, I ignored that morning’s call as a “mistake”. I did not report to SIW as it asked me to.

So I didn’t report the next day, on Thursday morning. So I went swimming with my friend Daniel in the afternoon instead. During the swim, as I didn’t took my handphone for a swim with me, I received some phone calls again.

I could roughly recognized that all the calls were different numbers, but were from the same 9 DIV as most of it, the first four digits of the numbers were the same of the Wednesday morning phone call I received. I confirmed it even further where it went through the same bloody 9 DIV’s guardroom again.

I was worried. Without knowing who or where called me, I had to wait for the mystery phone call again.

It was only until the late afternoon, when I was bowling with Daniel at The Chevrons.

Only then, I confirmed that I must report to SIW on Friday morning. Or I’ll be charged with AWOL, or Absence Without Leave, which is a very serious offence.

Even then, I wasn’t even sure that was my posting or what? I still didn’t know what is my new vocation and where I’ll be working?

Frankly speaking, all these, made me sleep little on Thursday night.

Only until the day I reported on Friday, it was only then, I slowly realise the truth…

I am posted to BMTC. But was immediately attached to SIW’s sub-unit. A special unit called SAF Army Shooting Contingent (SSC) located in Mandai Hill Camp. And I’ll be attached there till I ORD (Operational Ready Date)!

My new vocation has no name I knew of.

So I’ve named it as “Range Specialist”.

My job will be conducting range practices or such for different units coming from all over the SAF, in which they will compete in international rifles meets and competitions. I’ll be covering all the tasks as of needed in a range, especially in the field of safety aspects.

Next week, I’ll report to work on Wednesday (when I would clear my applied leave till Tuesday). I’ll start be doing my vocational training on different weapons technical handling and familiarisation trainings. All the weapons that I’ll be handling will be those used in the range practices and competitions I think.

I am looking forward to my new phase of experiences in my NSF life and hoping to learn new unique things that differs from some my fellow NSF friends!
