Belated Birthday Gifts?!

These three, four days... Well, well, well. My break from my training routine is here. I suppose it as my block leave. Definitely a well-deserved one for myself.

Especially after I spend both my gregorian and lunar birthdays in camp doing the worst of the siong events.

Back to my break; and of course, after the high frequency of tiring days of my previous BSLC course, I'm definitely not going to stay at home all day and sleep like a beauty.

I did walk out own of my lovely cosy home for some shopping of my belated birthday gifts using my birthday money given by my parents.

Friday. Rest and home, sleep, eat and surf net almost the whole day. This day certainly caught up lots of rest and sleep I missed from my BSLC training.

Saturday. I went out to Bugis to hunt for a new watch as one of my belated birthday gifts.

My once and only cheapo digital watch's strap is totally broken into multiple pieces by the phyical abuses in the chiong swah of my army life. Anyway, I wanted a new watch a long time ago, but I just didn't have the money to do it.

So I went to look for a watch which I could use in my civilian life.

And so I went for a shopping hunt and I got this (with the company of Andhika).

 Posted by Hello

Simply designed, not too sophisticated, that's how I like it.

The pi jiak digital watch's strap was repaired in an ugly way using black tape. I think I'll try to hang on with it for a while for use in the army still...

I went out with Andhika and Chee Wee for some LAN gaming. Chee Wee I haven't met Andhika for months. We're certainly glad to meet this old friend of ours.

He certainly has more hair than Chee Wee and I which we serve the "hopeless" SAF Army.

Andhika has a more better looking prospects and future of his NS life in the Singapore Civil Defence Force than Chee Wee and I. He is also going to be a specialist, going to be a fireman, as well as getting his HAZMAT (ability to handle hazardous chemical and biological materials). All these will make his allowance increase even more in the future.

Both of us envy his better looking future...

Haiz..

Anyway, we also met Cai Zhi and Gang Xin on the streets coincidentally and had a brief talk before heading for the LAN gaming shop for play.

And boy we didn't had such fun together for quite a long time.

Sunday, yesterday. A 24-hour, full day of time wasting for the army. I kanna guard duty again unluckily, and its regimental camp guard duty in SISPEC. We, the ASLC tarinees had to do it because there weren't any BSLC junior trainees till about a few weeks later...

But guard duties isn't that bad anymore. I learnt to get use to it, adpat to it and enjoy it.

The only real lucky thing that happened on my guard duty?

A storm and the extremely rare siren of "CAT. 1!" (Catergory 1, for thunder rainstorms).

That rare siren was not heard for about 10 weeks through out my BSLC course in SISPEC and that siren was something I almost forgot there's such a thing on Tekong island.

The storm reduce one less round of prowling for me and my partner, Ashraf. Certainly, we were glad about it.

Monday, today. I booked out of Tekong in a wonderful misty morning. But I didn't went straight home immediately. I went all the way the the western Jurong Point shopping mall.

I had my lunch there and I did alot of other shopping there too.

I got a new mandarin pop album, titled "Amphibian" by Tanya Chua. Actually, the main song that attracted me to get this album was because there's a song sung together by both Tanya Chua and...

...Stefanie Sun (Hee... I'm bias am I?)!

But anyway, I like Tanya Chua's songs too. She is a good singer with her own distinct sining style. Not to mention she's a good song writer as well as lyricist. Afterall, I did bought her first mandarin album and another English album of hers. I just didn't had the money to continue her series of other released albums.

Anyway, I did want to get a new album for quite some time. So I guessed, Tanya's new album is a good choice.

I also bought some other miscellaneous stuff from the Popular bookstore there after I bought the Tanya Chua's song album form its CD-RAMA music CD shop.

After that, I went to the Sports Connection to hunt for backpack or hiking bag of some sort. My current civilian used for booking in and out was a bit spoiled, so I thought of getting a replacement soon before I totally destroy that spoiled sling luggage bag.

Anyway, I had wish to get some sort of a backpack bag of my own for quite a long time. So I thought since I'm getting a fuctional bag used for booking in and out, able to put all my sometimes heavy and bulky army stuff. I think the new bag could also serve me well for its use when I'm going Taiwan for tarining in the future.

Why am I saying all these? Maybe I'm just trying console myself, of my own relunctance to spend more money of more stuff...

Ok lah, this new traveling backpack bag shall be another one of my belated birthday gifts!

; P

So I got a new traveling backpack bag, the Vertikal Kenyon. I did had my eyes set on other types of bags available in the store, but there were not cost effective (too expensive, they are always over a hundred bucks) to serve my purpose.

The Vertikal Kenyon is cheaply discounted. Though it may not be the lastest and the best-looking traveling backpack bag. I think its good enough to serve its purpose for only $37.

Ha ha ha! What a good bargain eh?

There and Back again...

 Posted by Hello

This week. Yeah! I finally passed out of my BSLC course and received my corporal rank! This achievement was definitely no easy feat for all who went through this idiotic course. It was definitely not about all the honour but about its shit.

Before my graduation parade of receiving my chevron rank of corporal yesterday morning, all graduands had to go through the gruelling 32km graduation march on the Wednesday night.

To make us feel more well-achieved, they had an event of a 32km graduation march.

That's not the worst.

My friend Eddie, who got the label of being the Best Physical Training Trainee in Bravo company had to carry the bloody heavy signal set apart from the standard fieldpack of load everyone had...

And that happened only to a poor Bravo trainee...

He did complete it of course, with much of many people's respect, salutations and awe (of pain).

(Poor Eddie went home, buying some Salonpas to relieve his aching shoulders.)

I did go for the 32km graduation march but I did not manage to complete it as I did not feel well after 12km of march. So I fell out after I had some stomach idcomfort of inflation, where I kept having the bad feeling to vomit. I am all righgt now. But I did feel sad and a pity to fail to complete my march with much of my fellow platoon mates.

On my shoulders it is now, with an increase of $70 pay...

But the most important thing is still managing to complete the BSLC course and getting my corporal in the end.

Now the next important thing there and then after was where would I be going after my BSLC course.

I did hope to get out of SISPEC and have at least a change of environment to my NSF training life. But that did not happened...

In amidst of the anxiety of receiving our postings, going to the ASLC course (the advance course above BLSC course) and staying in Tekong was a no-no wish for most people in my platoon. But our platoon sergeant singled out those lucky ones (or maybe not so lucky ones) who went to mainland Singapore.

And unluckily (or maybe luckily), I'm one of those staying...

At first I was dissapointed as it always been my wish to get out of Tekong, as it was really too darn far from my home.

But I was going to the ASLC course in SISPEC Alpha company. And that didn't sound really much of a hell than I was in Bravo company. It was simply because SISPEC Alpha company was a well-known welfare company.

From my new fellow section mates who were from Alpha company when they were in BSLC,they training schedule and lifestyle in Alpha compnay was deifnitely more relaxing than that of Bravo company.

And guess what? I'm still in platoon 2 (same since in BMT) section 5 (same as BSLC), meaning I'm still on the 4th storey on the company line, same building. And I still have friends I knew from BMT and BSLC going through the ASLC with me, even in the same section (namely Alex and Eddie).

What more I can ask for? At least I didn't "lose" my friends.

What's more, I'm going to Taiwan for training in just two months!

Its one of those places I wanted to visit in my civilian life!

Though I'm going to training in Taiwan but not having fun, but at least I know that is going to be a new experience (maybe I can enjoy the landscape there) and from what I know, I can have at least 3 days of fun over there!

I'll just have to accept all these and be hopeful, optimistic and postive about my new training phase in SISPEC.

(^_^)

With hope, I'll survive and succeed anything!

Woo-ha!

WOO-HA!

Finally! I've survived one of the worst weeks in my SISPEC BSLC training and there is still one more week to go before I hopefully end my days out of this horrible training place in Pulau Tekong known as SISPEC. Its truely a bad training environment to be in, especially in Bravo company, where the training schedule is truely depressing.

But I'm so happy that one more week and I'll be through with it.

(^o^)

So its now a good time to use the motto, "With Pride, We LEAVE SISPEC!"
(The original one should be, "With Pride, We Lead. SISPEC.")

This very tiring training week! What I've been through this weekdays was nothing but pure mental endurance from insanity of the training programme's over-whelming siongness.

I've been through the over-whelming lack of sleep since last Saturday, after the boring gurad duty...

Then on Monday, I had a full day of mental stress on doing the section live firing movement safely and correctly.

Endured the blistering pain on my feet of the 16km route march on Tuesday.

And last but not least, the most siong thing ever in the whole of the BSLC course, the Exercise Nutcracker, the three-day and two-night of non-stop digging of trenches on the perfectly hard and dry soil ground.

And certainly, digging the bloody trenches on my birthday was certainly not fun...

: (

On the first night itself, we all didn't slept and had a 24-hour digging on our trenches. The blisters on our hands. The non-stop sweating on our body. The setting in of the powerful Z-Monster of sleep. Tons of soil dug up using 20 hours and only to be buried in anbout an hour...

But all these were over.

Now I'm looking forward to finishing the BSLC course, get promoted to my corporal rank (Hopefully, as it is always not sure. Shit do happen.) and lastly, get out of SISPEC, out of Tekong, go to somewhere nearer to my home, haivng more time for myself, my family and friends...

Hope will survive!

Jailed for Guard Duty.

Yesterday Saturday till this morning... Well, got jailed to my "Alcatraz" to do some guard duty for my extras which I thought I cleared...

It was pretty tiring. I was the Ammo Guard Orderly, the one who do all the crap work, sai kang and administrations.

But it was a relaxing appointment, sitting down there by the table when there's no work. I enjoyed the air-con (this is unlike the prowlers who had to suffer tiredness and still had to patrol their rounds).

The only bad point being the the orderly was that you can't get enough proper sleep as you would be waking up about every two hours to do the work on the exchange of shifts of the prowlers.

But nevermind, I still have to do it anyway right?

Anyway, yesterday's morning for my guard duty at Tekong's ammo point was messy. I reached Tekong before dawn but reported late because I didn't know who and where I need to report for my guard duty as I weren't inform of anything or given any instructions.

So I reported late, along with other trainees who wre as lost sheep as me, including some of the sergeants (who didn't knew and informed properly that they had duties then).

A warrant officer said I'm "late". Now I might be punish with more extras (along with others who were late, including some of the sergeants, who may also get extras)...

Late?! I came onto Tekong before the first light and he said I was late?! I felt amused then. Then if I'm "late", I shouldn't have taken a $30 taxi instead of taking a transit train, all for the fear of I'm going to be late at the first place.

In the end, I'm still considered "late"... How laughable...

The cause of all this nonsense was due to what some army men called it "Murphy's Law" or simply "shit happens".

Miscommunications in the army was common, and what happened yesterday was such incident of miscommunication which all parties were to be blamed on way or the other, but the ones lower in ranks (small fries) suffered the punishments from the top.

Welcome to the army... (z.Z)

Happy Chinese New Year (^_^)

Since last Tuesday till now. Well, well. Chinese New Year (CNY) is here again but I'm not exactly too excited. I'm not feeling sad but I'm just not getting into the mood, much.

Well, this slight un-moodness for the CNY must be caused by the curse of the army.

It must blamed. Heh...

Anyway, I've just returned from my 3 day visit to Simpang Renggam, Malaysia, where my grandmother lived. My grandmother is full of white hair now but she's still healthy.

But I realised, as years go by, my mood for the CNY is getting less, and its definitely getting boring there. Perhaps I've really grown up. And there isn't really much stuff there to play anymore. Even the "ang pow" was of little attraction for me...

To support the facts of the CNY boredom, even my 2 week older cousin, Jiavei (who is now currently studies in NTU Singapore), also had nothing to do at grandma's place. I always see him sleeping during the afternoon, along with other teenage cousins...

Now, us, the older ones simply were accompanying and supervising the younger kids having their fun in playing the firecrackers.

Although the use and possession of firecrackers and fireworks in Malaysia were illegal, we still played them. Simply because its still fun. Although its dangerous, I think we only need some proper caution when playing with them.

We sure had our fun but when we ignited our last but most beautiful fireworks. A Malaysian police patrol car came and stopped in front of our house. And obviously, all of the familiy from old to young. were caught in the act.

But the police let us off and simply said that its too late to play fireworks after midnight...

And all of us though the policeman was going to ask for an "ang pow" (bribe). But the policeman didn't. May its because he was too embarassed to ask in front of so many kids and adults around...

Corruption in Malaysia is still common. From the moment we drove into the Malaysian customs in my uncle's car, the customs officer simply had the thick face to ask for one. My uncle gave the officer a small one to avoid trouble.

The same thing applied to my sis when she cam into Malaysia in her boyfriend's rented car. But they didn't give in as they ain't married! Haha!

I think Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah will really hard time to deal with the corruption in his country huh...

Okay, I'm getting outta topic and going into plitics liao... haha...

Anyway, Happy Chinese New Year to everyone and I wish everyone a healthy and prosperous new year!

Re-living Oneself.

Since days on my "Alcatraz"... Well, finally, another week plus of training over and I'm outta my "Alcatraz". This last 10 days was not much of hell, but yet it felt very hard and long to pass the time...

Time to serve NS in the army SISPEC Bravo on the island of Pulau Tekong is pretty much like serving a jail sentence...

I am trying to live, to re-live oneself.

Anyway getting slightly out of the topic, I felt a mixed of weird feelings when I saw this poster article I saw on my TIME magazine, the poster article of an old German magazine named BRAVO, featuring one of my fav posthumous idol, the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley, in an army attire...

 Posted by Hello

The King is not crowned with a royal crown, but with a military helmet...?

Anway, what did happened for the last 10 days of my epic struggle in SISPEC Bravo?

Nothing much actually. I'm just trying to survive and pass this BSLC course.

For the first two days, I was being transfered out-and-in of my "Alcatraz" to another camp to do some special training activities. And the camp was ultimately west, pretty close to my home.

Been in that west camp doing stuff like getting smoked by tear gas in a small chamber room (and god, do my tears and mucus really spill) and going to some demolition area to feel the blast effect shocks of some demos (yes, only feeling the shock blast only).

The rest of the days were simply training, training, testing and testing of different practice and knowledges of different drills, skills and equipments.

Like I said last blog, I did multiples IPPT tests too. I almost got a gold award for it. For standing broad jump, I jumped like I never jumped before, a remarkable 250cm distance. And for 2.4km run, I ran my best timing of a 9 minutes and 46 seconds. I just missed the gold for that 2.4km run for a mere 2 seconds.

But I wasn't really upset that I only got a silver and missed that gold. I'm glad and happy enough that my performance improved every time test after test.

And that was a good thing enough to consolate my relatively miserable life in SISPEC Bravo...
